Genetic Improvement (Breeding)

Since 1975, SAIS has developed, within their centre for improvement of horticultural seeds, a research activity for the production of new varieties of tyipical mediterranean species: fresh tomato, pepper, eggplant, basil etc..
Our aims are:

  • Exploitation of local typologies;
  • Improvement of agronomical characteristics;
  • Introduction of resistance to the main adversities.

All the varieties of our present product range are obtained without any genetic manipulation, generating genetically modified organisms based upon the definition given to the board of Leaders of the European Community on the 12th of March 2001.

Our Research Department collaborates with the following Public Research Corporations:

ENEA (Alternative Energy National Corporation - Rome)
ISCI-MIPAF ( Industrial Experimental Cultivation Institute - Bologna)
ISOP (Horticultural Institute - University of Pisa)
ISOPA (Horticultural Institute - University of Palermo)
